I Did a Crochet!

I am a knitter. I love knitting toys and silly hats, and many, many other things. That said, I am not much of a crocheter.

When I was younger I crocheted “elf” hats–the kind that maybe Santa’s elves would wear. At that time I was also just a beginning knitter, having made a couple scarves. Life happened, my interests changed, and I put down my needles and hooks for about a decade.

What brought me back to yarn was a knitted gnome. I absolutely yearned to make it. So I brushed the dust off my old needles and got to work.

About six years ago I saw a crocheted wine cork knight and yearned to make it. (Are you detecting a theme here?) So I found my crochet hooks and made it.

And now…well, about two months ago, I suddenly yearned to make granny square shorts. Why? Maybe it’s because they remind me of the scratchy granny square afghans from my childhood. Maybe it’s because they are so tacky they make me laugh. Maybe it’s because it has been a hell of a year, my dudes, and it was time to do something ridiculous.

One YouTube, two random hand-me-down crochet hooks, and six scratchy, old Red Heart skeins of yarn later, and this, my friends, is the glorious result.
