Route 66 – Day 2

We started in Springfield at Lincoln Library, Lincoln Museum, and then Lincoln’s Tomb. The museum does a wonderful job presenting bits of history and his life. This was a bucket list item for hubby and I enjoyed it too.

Route 66 isn’t always easy to follow. We found that out yesterday in Normal (darn you Normal! Why were you so confusing!!) and we ran into that today. Namely, when you get off of Route 66, it isn’t always easy to get back on to where you want to go next. I’d love to see some apps put in place that tell you where the Route is (all three or so versions of it) and which one might be the best, or still available to use.

That’s part of the fun, though! We got lost and stumbled upon one of the places we hadn’t thought we’d see:

Finally (finally!) we got ourselves sorted out and followed good old 66 all the way to Missouri. If you’re keeping track, we spent 2 full days in Illinois, and didn’t see nearly all the things we could have. We basically missed out on everything in Chicago and lots of other stuff that we could not fit in. So if you’re driving the road, give Illinois plenty of time.

Trust me, it’s worth it.
