I would really like to know what is going on with the audio releases I love your stories and would love to continue the series but I just can’t get into the paper back like I get into the audio the voice gives me another depth to the story. We have waited long enough for a response as to if they will do an audio version. I would just like a yes or no…. if its a no then sorry I won’t be continuing the story it just won’t be the same.

    Hey Devon!

So, I stopped by Barnes and Noble just before going to see a movie (Gnomeo and Juliet – very cute!) to pick up the next book in one of the handful of series I read. Since they were not there, I browsed casually for something else to kill time. Came across your Allie Beckstrom series and, without too much expectation, determined the first book and zipped off to the theater. I read a dozen pages before the movie started and thought “wow, this isn’t so bad!”

When I got back to my hotel room, realizing that the hotel doesn’t have the Cartoon Network, I grabbed your book and started to read again. I got hooked, and HARD! I only got 4 hours of sleep that night, thanks to you! :) And I finished the book the next night when I got home.

I went from thinking “eh… why not” to now downloading Kindle software so I can read the rest! You sucked me right in, Devon, and that’s no small feat! Well done!

Thanks for your imagination and talent!

PS: On a side note, I think you should have your publisher give a Chronological Order of the series. I had to search for “First Published” dates on each book to find the first one! :)

      Devon August 1, 2011 at 8:25 am | | Reply

Wow! So glad you found and enjoyed them! I love it when I discover a series that way!! (sorry for the lack of sleep though, lol)

Thanks for this note, and I’ll bring it up the chronological order comment with my editor next time we talk.

    Hi Devon,

I was doing my normal 10,000+ book search through my local Library for something to read and I came across your (Allie Beckstrom series) and Karen Marie Moning’s (Fever series) and I chose yours to read first because of the covers on the books. Yes that is how I choose my books from the Library. Kinda strange I know, but what can I say, I’ve read somereally awesome stuff that way and yours was the top of my list for this year. I cant wait til April to get the next book. :) Hope you keep putting out more books in the series.

They say not to judge a book by its cover, well I do it everytime I get a book and it hasn’t let me down yet!!!! LOL

I absolutely loved the Allie Beckstrom series. It is a totally original take on use of magic. And the characters have their own quirks which make them seem human and familiar. It is amusing how Allie runs on coffee. And I just finished reading your latest book and I cannot wait for more!

I know this is way to early to ask, do perhaps have a date that the next book is due to be released. I am so addicted, I have read all the books in 2 and a half days.

I read… *a lot*. I’ve read a lot of books by a great many authors. (all Fantasy btw, very few sci-fi, and NEVER an urban fantasy) I read the back of the first book and thought to myself, “Magic uses you back? Pain? Ack!” But I took a chance, honestly because I couldn’t find anything better, and now I think your brilliant! I had no idea magic could be so painfully fun, much less GOOD in an Urban setting.

You got me to read Kim Harrison, Jocelyn Drake, and Brian Lumley. You and Kim are on a level together! Great work!

Devon, I grabbed Magic to the Bone partly because of the title and partly because of the intriguing cover art. Either way, I grabbed all of the other Allie books simply becaues your writing style has me hooked like blood magic. Reading the last three in the series has made my time in Iraq much more tolerable and I’ll probably read them again before I’m home. Thanks a lot for making my life richer.

I’ve always loved books, especially with strong female characters, and Allie Beckstrom is definitely up there with my favorites. Ive been trying to get myself to sit down and work on writing but none of my ideas have taken me far enough yet. You’re amazing keep up the good work. Do you have any idea how many more books will be in the series if there are more? Im working on Magic in the Shadows right now and curious how much more I have to look forward too

I also have to compliment you on your ability to create emotions in your characters and have them transfer. Allie pissed me a good deal off on more than one occasion, I actually wanted to strangle her! Any author that can evoke a emotional reaction such as anger at a main character in a book is a bloody good one in my books!

Just wanted to say I am very much enjoying this series and I’ve pushed it on all the folk in my reading circle.

And – not to sound contrary – I’m also glad to see you have a planned ending to the series. Too many of the urban fantasies have open-ended storylines, and the main character just gets more and more trouble in her life…and you can’t help to start to think the characters are never going to be able to have any kind of “good” life!

I will definitely look for your other series…

Hi Devon! My wife and kids and I are all Urban Fantasy addicts. When we find series that we like, we pass the books around the house and inevitably find ourselves waiting impatiently for our favorite authors (like yourself) to come out with the next one. Then, of course, it’s a matter of waiting for your turn! We’re all big fans of Allie. My wife got to Magic on the Line first. I just finished it today and it goes on to one of my sons tonight.
I’m always sad when an author says that there will only be ____ books in a series that I love because I hate to see it end, but I’m looking forward to The Age of Steam and whatever other characters and universes that you create for us. (However long we have to wait between books…lol) = ^ )

I am really enjoying this series, everything about it. I wonder why only 9 books. I do hope that you continue past 9 books, even if it is still in Allie’s world and not directly about her. It’s a great mix of everything and reminds me of the Dresden Files (Jim Butcher, which I also enjoy).
Please keep Allie and her world going.

I discovered the third book in the Allie Beckstrom series when I was nosing around my local used book store to find something to read in the paranormal genre a coupl of months ago. It is my favorite genre to get lost in. I went to the local library got the first two and I am totally addicted. I am reading the second book right now and the third and forth are in transit to my library as I write this. Woohoo!!! Thanks for writing this fantastic series. I am a bit sad as there is only going to be nine books total. I really think you shouldn’t give up the characters. Judging from the amount of comments on the web site, you have a mighty large legion of fans. Devon Monk as an author totally rocks out in my honest opinion.

I love your books. I grabbed a copy of Magic on the Storm on a trip to Eureka. Read all the way through without realizing that it was book five of a series. It was EPIC. Due to bookstores not having copies, I actually read them 5, 3, 4, 2,1,6,7, and 8. Even out of order, it makes sense because you feel for Allie, not having any of the knowledge of the memories she’s lost. Love Zay and Allie, want to beat some sense into Shame and Terric. Congratulations on such a compelling, vivid, heart-wrenching, bad ass story.

However your series with Allie Beckstrom has changed that I have read the whole series in a few months (very quickly for me) and have just started book 8, I cheated as I always do on great books and read the last paragraph in the book, and see that there does seem to be more left to her story. Devon, about halfway through Magic to the Bone, the first one of your books I’ve read. I am completely sold on it, and will be getting the rest of that series.

Picked the book up at thriftstore (along with about 10 other urban fantasy books – all first books in a series – I think someone traded in a collection). Had no idea what to expect. It was great – be buying the rest new. Great stuff. Starting this late in the life of the series means I have a lot of good books to look forward to. šŸ˜€

The whole “price of magic” thing isn’t something I’ve seen anywhere else really, it gives a depth to the setting and magic that you don’t get elsewhere.

An earlier comment from Devon indicated 9 books total in the Magic xxx series. I have to say the end of Price is indicative of either 1) the publisher wanting an option for more, 2) Devon wanting to be “pressured” into writing more, or 3) just poor editing on the trailing bits. I’m inclined to go with #2 myself because the ending made me go “wha?” Not that I want the series to go on much more – it needs a wrap up – but I felt like the ending was out of character for Allie and the crew. That’s not even mentioning Mama.

Is there a release date for the 3rd in the Broken Magic series?

Looking forward to the House Immortal series as well. Though I do confess that a trilogy is never enough for me.

Great Series, just finished reading Magic for a Price.
I know the broken magic series (which have not read yet) has the same characters. But the way the last book (in this series) ended; seems it could potentially could continue – like M.R. passing on to A.B.
So the question is will the Allie series have another book? It has nine books — why not ten or more?

I have mastered some essential things through your blog post.
One other stuff I would like to convey is that there are plenty of
games out there designed specifically for toddler age youngsters.
They contain pattern acknowledgement, colors, animals, and
models. These usually focus on familiarization rather than memorization. This makes little ones engaged without
having the experience like they are learning. Thanks

It takes a very small electrical force to
turn on the light emitting diodes. Seeds and seedling grow faster on blue grow lights.
This is done by the LED lamp imitating the light
from the sun and by emitting the same types of light onto the plant.

It didn’t matter that he was wearing a $3,000 suit or that he had a
sharp intellect; what seemed to matter was that he didn’t
have hair. Seaweed has shown beneficial results in studies for hair growth and maintenance.
It conditions the hair and even strengthens the hair follicles making them less prone
    to dryness and breakage.

Devon I love your magic series from magic in the bone to the last magic for a price. Are you going to publish anymore with Allie in it? & is there a graphic novel out there or in the works? I would love to see if my image of Stone is the same as you describe it. Thanks.
