Flowers and Giant Robots

This is one of the sunflowers my son and I planted this spring.  It’s about nine feet tall, and stands in a row with other sunflowers along the south side of the house.  I’m sort of in love with these big, happy flowers, the tallest of which is about ten feet tall (3-ish meters).

The plants are so tall now, they’re beginning to droop a little under the weight of the flowers and they haven’t even seeded yet.  To help them not come crashing down, I tied them all back with bright cotton yarn I normally use for knitting. Bright string and bright flowers were a perfect “time off” moment during my Sunday work day, and I smile every time I walk out in the yard and see them there.

Saturday’s time off was spent going to PACIFIC RIM with hubby and the boys.

Aw…yeeeah! There’s Striker Eureka, Gypsy Danger, and Cherno Alpha!

We had a GREAT time!

Sure, it’s a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters, and sure, there were a lot of plot holes and more than a few “what the heck” moments. But despite all that…or heck, maybe because of the filmmaker’s willingness to jump whole hog into GIANT MONSTERS and GIANT ROBOTS (piloted by flawed, but noble humans) will FIGHTFIGHTFIGHT  TO RULE EARTH!! overkill of it all, it was a blast.

Perfect Summer big screen matinee movie.

As for the writing, it’s going well!  Revisions on STONE COLD, book #2 of the Broken Magic series (Shame and Terric books) are chugging right along, and I hope to finish them ahead of schedule so I can turn to that other book I haven’t talked much about yet.

Oh, and my short story collection, A CUP OF NORMAL is now available in electronic format.  I’ll post a proper update about that on Wednesday. Until then, happy Monday! May your days be filled with sunflowers and giant robots…or you know, the things that make YOU grin like a little kid.
