Q&A

Comment on the blog:

“Forgive me if you’ve posted this elsewhere, but why is it the LAST Allie book?”

I’m not sure if I’ve gone into the specifics of why MAGIC FOR A PRICE is the last Allie book.  For the record, the decision was mine.  Way back when my marvelous editor picked up the first three books in the series, I sat down and thought about what kind of series I wanted to write.  I knew the story I wanted to tell–Allie’s story–needed about nine books, or three sets of three books, a beginning three, a middle three, and an ending three.

I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen in those books, though I’ve been surprised more times than I can count by some of the characters and some of the things they did (I’m looking at you, Shame).  But all along, I knew that Allie’s story, which started with her waking up on her 25th birthday broke and lonely in a city filled with dirty magic and dirtier secrets, would end a certain way.

And that’s what book 9, MAGIC FOR A PRICE is all about–finishing that story we began with her.  I’ve been looking forward to giving Allie this last book, her “ending” for about five years now and I am thrilled it is almost on the shelves so that I can share it with you all.

Will I ever write more books from Allie’s point of view with the gang all together?  Maybe. I won’t rule it out.  I love Allie, and I love all these characters who have taken up space in my head and heart over the last several years.

They are the first novel people I have shared with anyone, and I can’t imagine seeing them drift away forever.

But for now, we get to enjoy the end of Allie’s journey.  We get to see if she, the people she loves, and her world that is still filled with dirty magic and dirtier secrets, makes it through to the end.

And by this time next year, I’ll be biting my fingernails wondering if readers out there are going to like the spin-off BREAKER series, starring Shame and Terric, because their first book will be coming out…and a new journey will begin. 🙂

P.S.

I promised a snippet from Magic For A Price and will post that tomorrow.  Sorry for the delay!

I won’t lie- @ hearing that this will be Allie’s final adventure, I felt a pang in stomach. As with all my favorite series- and this is definitely top five- I don’t want to see an end to the adventure. I am happy that you’re content with it ending, that means it will be a satisfying conclusion. The series won’t continue till it goes stagnant ( not that I find it possible with characyers like Allie and Zeyvon.
And of course, I will be picking up Shame and Terric’s novel. As always, your writing invites readers in. Cannot wait!

Can’t wait for Allie’s last book. A little sad that it is ending. But also can’t wait for Shame and Terric to make an appearance. Love those two characters.

I do have to say while I am sad we will be done with Allies books, I am also glad that you are going to finish that Arc. I have never really been a fan of Authors continuing a series after it seems like it should be done. I would much rather it end and they do something new, or see new/existing characters in the same world get a story so it stays fresh. And I love me some Shane so I am excited to see his story continue… I just hope we still get a certain gargoyle to show up on occasion.
